Two people were killed after the car they were in flipped over onto its roof during a six-vehicle crash in Batavia Monday afternoon.
Batavia police responded to the crash shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Kirk Road after a vehicle flipped over onto its roof, killing two occupants inside the car, police officials said in a news release. Police are withholding the identification of the two who died until next of kin are notified.
Two people in another car involved in the crash, a woman and a young child, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A preliminary investigation shows that while attempting to change lanes, one of the cars involved in the crash struck a semi-trailer, causing the car to cross over into oncoming traffic. It ultimately came to rest on its roof, police officials said.
Three other cars and another truck, pulling a fuel tank, were also involved in the crash. No hazardous materials leaked from the fuel truck as a result of the crash, according to police.
