Sheriff Villanueva announced another student, a 14-year-old male, has died in the high school shooting in Santa Clarita
Two students were killed and three others were injured Thursday morning during a shooting at a high school in Santa Clarita.
A massive police presence responded around 7:38 a.m. to Saugus High School, which is about 40 miles north of Los Angeles. When authorities arrived they found a total of six victims suffering from gunshot wounds. It was later learned, one of those people was the suspected shooter, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said during a media conference at 11:40 a.m.
The 16-year-old suspect is in custody and "being treated at area hospital," the sheriff's department announced. The suspect's birthday is today. The suspect's home and belongings are being searched. Possible threats posted online from the suspect are also being investigated. The suspect shot himself in the head. He is still alive, but in "grave condition." A single .45 handgun was used in the shooting, authorities said.
Henry Mayo Hospital received multiple patients. At 10 a.m., the hospital tweeted, "one [16-year-old] female deceased patient. Two critical male patients. One male patient in good condition."Aerial coverage showed students being led out of the school in long, single-file lines with armed escorts. Student Brooklyn Moreno told ABC7 News that she witnessed some students being trampled after shots rang out and everyone fled."We need to interview every student at Saugus HS before they can be released to their parents. We need to conduct a thorough investigation," Murakami said via Twitter. "We apologize for the wait."
