Man United's midfield has lacked physicality this season but the emergence of Hannibal Mejbri and Sofyan Amrabat gives Erik ten Hag the luxury of choice.
Manchester United's midfield has been a constant headache for Erik ten Hag during a concerning start to the season but recent weeks may finally have given him some pain relief.
Ten Hag fielded a midfield three of Casemiro, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes in north London and that trio was widely regarded to be the Dutchman's first-choice unit for the season. But the balance wasn't close to being right and Roy Keane was hugely concerned at full-time. "When I look at Mount and Fernandes, out of possession they look like schoolboys! They haven't got the physicality to get the ball back."
Both Hannibal and Amrabat can bring a steeliness that others in the United squad can't, offering Ten Hag the luxury of choice when games need it. As with the midweek win over Palace, the versatility of some midfielders even allows the Dutchman to overload that area. Injuries and late arrivals starved Ten Hag of that physicality but with Amrabat and Hannibal, he should now have plenty.
