Two men on their way home from a pub, have become unlikely heroes after rescuing a family from their burning home in Sydney's West.

Daniel and Andrew were on their way home from Panthers Penrith Rugby Leagues Club about 2am on Saturday, when they saw flames engulfing the Glenmore Park home. The residents, who had no knowledge of the fire tearing through their house, ignored bangs at the door, fearing the two good Samaritans were intruders. The five residents, including a pregnant woman, eventually made it to safety as the roof and walls of the home crumbled.
