The Northern Territory has recorded another two locally acquired cases of COVID-19 linked to the remote mine at the centre of a recent coronavirus outbreak. They were on the same flight as someone who later tested positive to COVID-19Both new cases worked at the Newmont-owned Granites gold mine in Central Australia. They say they were in the facility for the entirety of their infectious period and there is no risk to the community.
They believe the pair may have contracted the illness from another employee who returned to Darwin on the same flight before testing positive. The workers returned negative test results on the first and fifth day of their quarantine, but tested positive on day 12.The Tanami mine outbreak began almost two weeks ago and has since spread to at least 19 cases across three other states.
