The aircrafts — a North American T-6G and North American AT-6B — crashed around 2 p.m. local time during the final day of competition at the National Championship Air Races. Only the pilots were on board at the time of the collision, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Reno Air Racing Association identified the two pilots as Nick Macy and Chris Rushing, who died while attempting to land at the end of their race. Both their families have been notified. The remainder of the races were cancelled on Sunday.
