A video from a witness initially suggested that 10 people had been buried under snow in the Lech-Zuers free skiing area in western Austria on Christmas Day
One of those rescued was injured and flown to a hospital while another was hurt but able to free himself and go to another hospital, officials told the Austrian Press Agency .But the fate of the final two remains unknown, APA reported.
“We are doing everything we can to rescue the winter sports enthusiasts,” said the municipality of Lech, as quoted by the APA.Helicopters, search teams and dogs joined the rescue effort tumbled down the Trittkopf mountain between Zürs and Lech at around 3pm local time .The emergency teams have been equipped with night-vision equipment and said they would continue the search all night.The last entry on ski conditions on the resort’s website warns of “considerable avalanche danger”.
