Tragic update: Two teens now dead after rollover crash in Box Elder County
The accident occurred shortly before 10:40 p.m. when the 1997 Toyota 4Runner was northbound on East Promontory Road near 2000 South. Police say their preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV drifted onto the right shoulder of the road, crossed over to the shoulder on the opposite side, then over-corrected back to the right and rolled at least two times.
All five people in the vehicle were ejected, and the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office said none appeared to be wearing seatbelts.Gage Manning, 17, was taken to a hospital by a medical helicopter, but the sheriff's office announced in an update Saturday night that he had succumbed to his injuries. Three other people — a 19-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl — suffered serious injuries but are expected to recover."We express our condolences to the families and friends of the injured and deceased who are grieving during this difficult time," the sheriff's office wrote.
