Richard Slaughter, 40, of Orting, WA and Caden Paul Gottfried, 20, are said to have disrupted a joint session of Congress meant to certify the presidential election.

The criminal complaint accuses the pair of “assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers using a deadly or dangerous weapon, interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder.” According to court documents, Slaughter and Gottfried illegally entered the Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021. They joined rioters in the area of the Lower West Terrace.
The two were arrested in Tacoma and the case is being investigated by the FBI’s Seattle Field Office and its Tacoma Resident Agency.The Justice Department said since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 880 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol.
