The boy’s mother was admitted to the hospital for an emergency caesarean section, a procedure she was “keen” to have, after a routine examination found he was in a legs-first breech position.A coroner has ruled Launceston General Hospital ‘mismanaged’ a boy's birth in a traumatic labour.He was born vaginally in a “critically unwell” condition shortly afterwards.

Dr Jonathan Nettle said at any time in the 26 minutes after the mother’s membranes ruptured it would have been possible to perform a comparatively straightforward caesarean section. “There were multiple opportunities presented to staff present to take an alternative course of action that would have likely avoided the final outcome,” he said.Coroner Simon Cooper ruled the Launceston General Hospital “mismanaged” the boy’s birth.
