TxDOT plans to widen FM 528 in Alvin; will hold public meetings soon

The in-person open house will be from 5-7 p.m. May 11 at Hood-Case Elementary, 1450 Heights Road, Alvin. Those attending the hearing will be able to view the same pre-recorded presentation that will be posted online and can ask or submit questions, according TxDOT.

The design was updated to include input from a public meeting conducted in October 2009 as well as from findings from environmental studies, Perez said. The work would provide a 30-foot raised median and curb and gutter improvements along with drainage ditches and shared-use paths. The project is not funded yet but is anticipated to be covered through federal and state funds, Perez said. TxDOT estimates that once the project is funded and needed right-of-way acquired, construction would take approximately two years.

Subject to final design considerations, the project would require around three acres of additional right of way and potentially displace three residences and one nonresidential structure, according to TxDOT.
