Superman & Lois star Tyler Hoechlin opens up on seeing James Gunn and DC Studios recast his character for the new DC Universe with Superman: Legacy.
With Superman: Legacy set to be another reboot of the Man of Steel, Tyler Hoechlin gets honest about the prospects of seeing James Gunn go with a new actor as his character in the DC Universe. As DC embarks on a new creative vision, DC Studios is working on several new movies and shows that will be part of Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe. The most highly anticipated project of them all right now is Superman: Legacy, with Gunn directing the reboot in 2024.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Until the new Man of Steel takes it to the big screen, Superman & Lois is the current live-action project keeping the hero around, with Hoechlin portraying him on The CW. While Hoechlin will obviously not star in Superman: Legacy, the Arrowverse veteran had only kind words for the next actor taking on the role. At Superman Celebration , Hoechlin got candid about DC Studios tapping someone else as the last son of Krypton.
I am very confident that whoever comes in [for Superman: Legacy]...it's so funny, people jump so quickly to say 'That's not it, that's not it!' when they get somebody, but I would just encourage everybody to whoever the next person ends up being [cast as Superman] give them a chance because I'm sure they will be awesome.
Out of the trio, Corenswet has been a popular choice in fan-casting for quite some time, and the recent reports have added more fuel to the excitement. Hoult is still the bigger mystery, as the X-Men alum has also been rumored to be up for the role of Lex Luthor. It's also possible that there are other contenders in the running for Superman: Legacy that the casting department has managed to keep under wraps.
With San Diego Comic-Con around the corner, it wouldn't be shocking if Gunn and DC Studios aim to have their new Superman locked in to announce during the annual Hall H presentation. Since Superman: Legacy would be less than half a year from starting filming, the timing would make a lot of sense to reveal the new Man of Steel to the world. Hopefully, the wait will soon be over about who will go on to star in Superman: Legacy.
