Provided through the Public Health Agency of Canada, the U of R will receive nearly $20 million to help fund five projects that will “explore and support” mental health needs of Canadian frontline healthcare workers, public safety personnel , their families and other essential workers. Projects also include a training and development program for PSP to provide “high-quality, accessible and responsive” training to support mental health and resiliency of PSP; and lastly, expansion of the Public Safety Personnel Internet-delivered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy program to include families of PSP through a PSPNET Families Wellbeing Hub.

While Rennie is hopeful that the announcement will increase awareness about PTSD and operational stress injuries, he said he’s not so sure it will have the impact that is intended.
