The Blazers look to get back on track as they return home Saturday to host Georgia Southern, which is hot off a road upset of Nebraska. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.

UAB’s defense eventually wore down in the end, allowing Liberty to score twice in the second half, but didn’t waiver in preventing any direct scoring by the Flames following each turnover. Redshirt junior safety Jaylen Key, who made his first start of the season at Liberty, assigned credit to the defense’s preparation in keeping the game close and not letting it get out of hand early after three offensive fumbles in the opening half.

“We stuck together to the end and our football team never blinked,” Vincent said. “We never pointed fingers. We stuck together all the way to the final second and we continued to stick together after the game. That’s a good sign because we know we’re going to have setbacks and we’re going to have adversity, but the main thing is that this football team sticks together and we continue this journey.

Interestingly enough, the Georgia Southern offensive staff has strong connections to the UAB program. Offensive line coach and running game coordinator Richard Owens spent three seasons with the Blazers and offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis was a UAB quarterback. “Obviously, Richard Owens coaching here and Bryan Ellis playing quarterback here, it adds a little twist to the story,” he added. “At the end of the day, we have to prepare. They have the No. 2 ranked offense in the country. They are coming off a big win against Nebraska. This is going to be a big challenge for our defense, a big challenge for our football team. We know we have a quality opponent who is coming off one of the biggest wins in school history.
