Resident and fellow physicians at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center who say they’re overworked and underpaid will hold a “Unity Break” on Wednesday, Nov. 16 to bring attention to their fight for fair contracts across all UC hospitals.

Other participating hospitals include UC Davis Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay and UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus., have been bargaining with their local campuses since spring. They’re looking to establish minimum pay and benefits standards system-wide. Their contract expired July 1.UCLA Health in a statement issued late Tuesday said it was committed to negotiating “in good faith with their union representatives on a new contract.

Doctors typically work a minimum of 80 hours a week, CIR-SEIU said, which lowers the overall hourly rate earned. The doctors also say UC’s parental leave policies aren’t consistent at all of its medical facilities. They’re fighting to get eight weeks of parental leave across all UC locations.
