The dominant UConn women’s basketball team has endured two years of injuries and other mishaps but kept winning. On Saturday, their luck ran out.
The No. 2-seeded Huskies, who had reached 14 consecutive Final Fours, lost 73-61 to No. 3 seed Ohio State on Saturday in the NCAA tournament Sweet 16.
On Saturday, Ohio State defended aggressively, pressing UConn into 25 turnovers, and held leading scorer Aaliyah Edwards to four points. It is the Buckeyes’ first trip to the Elite Eight since 1993, when they won the national title. Sophomore phenom Azzi Fudd reinjured a knee and missed 14 games, returning only this month. Several other UConn players have missed time with illnesses or injuries.
