Former West Virginia running back Tony Mathis Jr. will look to help UH fill the void created by Alton McCaskill IV leaving the program earlier this spring.Tony Mathis Jr., who led West Virginia in rushing last season, announced he will transfer to the Cougars.
UH had been in search of help in the backfield following the abrupt decision of Alton McCaskill IV to transfer at the end of spring practice.Mathis, a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility left, led the Mountaineers in rushing with 562 yards and added five touchdowns. He had 163 yards and two touchdowns against Baylor. Mathis was recruited to West Virginia by UH coach Dana Holgorsen, who left the Mountaineers after the 2018 season.
He joins a UH backfield that will enter the season with Stacy Sneed, Brandon Campbell, Kelan Walker and incoming freshmen Parker Jenkins and Re'Shaun Sanford.
