Prosecutors announced charges against UK Athletics and Keith Davies in the death of Abdullah Hayayei, a Paralympic thrower from the United Arab Emirates, who died during training in London in 2017.

Prosecutors announced on Wednesday that UK Athletics and Keith Davies, the former head of sport for the 2017 Paralympic event, have been charged over the death of Abdullah Hayayei during training in London in 2017. Hayayei, a Paralympic athlete from the United Arab Emirates, was preparing for the 2017 IPC World Para Athletics Championships at the Newham Leisure Centre when a metal throwing cage fell on him.

The 36-year-old, who debuted in javelin and shot put at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, was pronounced dead at the scene. UK Athletics has been charged with corporate manslaughter and an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Keith Davies has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter and an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Both UK Athletics and Davies are due to appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on January 31
