The UK has declared a code red emergency – a first for parts of England- with temperatures forecast to smash national records and soar to 40 degrees next week.

The UK Health Security Agency raised its heat health warning to Level 4 emergency on Friday which is reached when"a heatwave is so severe and/or prolonged that its effects extend outside the health and social care system."
