Breaking: UK election exit poll points to thumping Boris Johnson majority | bevanshields
The poll suggests Labour will win just 191 seats - its worst result since 2935. The Liberal Democrats would only pick up one seat to command 13 seats, and the Scottish National Party 55.
Labour's frontbencher Barry Gardiner described the exit poll as a "deeply, deeply depressing" and indicated Corbyn would have to go. Lines of voters snaked outside polling stations almost immediately from 7am for the first general election campaign since 1926, and there was a fresh rush in the final hours before voting closed at 10pm.Johnson broke with tradition on Thursday by voting in the polling booth closest to Downing Street instead of in his west London constituency of Uxbridge and South Ruislip. He travelled to the electorate late on Thursday evening to campaign ahead of the close of polls.
