Record-breaking temperatures and sunny spells across the UK allowed for festive outdoor activities.
People took advantage of the mild Christmas Day weather in the UK by going for walks at popular locations like Portobello in Scotland. Several areas experienced record-breaking temperatures for the festive period. According to the Met Office, Kinloss, Moray reached 11.9C, while Killowen, Co Down peaked at 11C. Dyce, Aberdeen saw a high of 14.2C.
Meteorologist Kathryn Chalk stated that the Christmas period was marked by a mild and cloudy theme, with sunny spells mainly to the east of higher ground. People shared photos of their walks on social media, highlighting the unseasonably warm temperatures. The warmer weather also encouraged open water swimmers to take an early Christmas Day dip at various locations across the UK, including Boscombe Pier in Bournemouth, Hunstanton in Norfolk, and the Serpentine Swimming Club's Peter Pan Cup race in London's Hyde Park. Overnight into Boxing Day, rain is expected in Scotland and Northern Ireland, while other areas will see cloudy conditions with potential for drizzle in the west and some clear intervals and fog patches. Boxing Day is forecast to have rain affecting central and southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland
