Chester Zoo to close for two days next week - latest
The UK’s first red 'extreme heat' warning has been issued across a large part of England from London to Manchester and York on Monday and Tuesday.
The warning means there will likely be "disruption to travel, energy supplies and possibly widespread damage to property and infrastructure". The Met Office says people should avoid travelling, where possible, and follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities.“Exceptional, perhaps record-breaking temperatures are likely early next week, quite widely across the red warning area on Monday, and focussed a little more east and north on Tuesday.
"This is likely to lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure. Therefore, it is important people plan for the heat and consider changing their routines. This level of heat can have adverse health effects.”Temperatures have hit the high 20s in Manchester today, with even hotter temperatures predicted over the coming days.
