UK trains will run normally on Monday despite bank holiday for the Queen's funeral 🛤️ Explained by SophieLamTravel
When the lying-in-state ends at 6.30am on Monday, the coffin will be taken in procession from the Palace of Westminster across the road to Westminster Abbey for the funeral at 11am. It will then travel in procession to Wellington Arch and onwards to St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle where the Queen will be buried.
While the funeral will be a private event, there are viewing screens in Hyde Park and cinemas around the country will be broadcasting it for free.Jason Webb, the Rail Delivery Group’s Customer Information Director, said: “On the day of the funeral, people should plan carefully the timing of their journey home as trains and stations are likely to be extremely busy. It will not be possible to view both the funeral in London and travel to Windsor, where Her Majesty the Queen will be laid to rest.
Trains to and from London are expected to be busy until the funeral, and to and from Windsor on Monday. Queuing systems will be implemented at stations when required. Train companies are providing limited additional services during the period of mourning; Southeastern and South Western Railway, for example, are operating a limited number of trains throughout the night. However, according to the Rail Delivery Group, “these are intended primarily to help people return home from London.
