Ukraine has rejected Moscow's offer of humanitarian corridors to Russia and Belarus, and wants Ukrainians to be able to evacuate towards the western city of Lviv instead.

Russia's defence ministry said the new "corridors" would be opened from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and the eastern cities of Kharkiv and Sumy, as well as the port city of Mariupol. Moscow has blamed Ukraine for the failure so far of humanitarian corridors and denies targeting civilians. One family which did manage to leave the city described spending a week without heat or electricity and running out of food and water.
