Troops landed in western tip of territory and raised Ukrainian flag before returning home safely
Ukrainian forces marked the country’s independence day with a naval raid into occupied, and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy praised Ukrainians for the defiance and courage that has won them global support in the fight with Russia.
Ukrainian troops landed on the western tip of Crimea, near the village of Olenivka, in the early hours of Thursday, defence intelligence said in a statement. They fought Russian troops and raised a Ukrainian flag, before all returned safely home. A video mostly captured in blurry night vision showed Ukrainian fighters on boats, then attaching the country’s blue and yellow flag to a wooden building.

‘Dead wrong’: Tucker Carlson’s Ukraine comments slammed by military expertFormer US Army Vice Chief of Staff General Jack Keane has slammed Tucker Carlson’s latest comments on Ukraine, labelling them as “dead wrong”. The former Fox News host took to social media platform X to share his view that many media reports about the Russian invasion of Ukraine were “lies”. “The Russian army is incompetent, they claim. Ukraine is a democracy. Vladimir Putin is Hitler, and he is trying to take over the world. Thankfully, the Ukrainians are winning. None of that is true,” Mr Carlson claimed. Mr Keane said the commentary was, at the very least, “disturbing”. “The thing that I found so disturbing about his commentary was that I know this for a fact, that this was played on Russian state television,” Mr Keane told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “It’s just dead wrong to describe it as anything more than what is really is; a brutal genocide invasion that is targeting the Ukrainian people much more than the Ukrainian military. “It has to be stopped by force.”
