About 90 minutes after US President Donald Trump spoke with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, the White House ordered the Pentagon to suspend all military aid to Ukraine, according to emails released following a freedom of information request

A budget official, Michael Duffey, told the Pentagon to keep quiet about the aid freeze because of the "sensitive nature of the request," according to a message dated July 25.

US President Donald Trump insists his call with the Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky was"perfect".The emails raises further questions about the process by which Trump imposed the hold on the military aid, and the link between the hold and the requests for political investigations that he made of Zelensky in the telephone call.

In addition, he wrote, "Given the sensitive nature of the request, I appreciate your keeping that information closely held to those who need to know to execute the direction." However, Susan Smith Richardson, chief executive officer of the CPI, said the heavily redacted emails revealed "how quickly the White House moved to cut off military aid to Ukraine."
