Russian commanders 'under pressure' to meet Putin's demands

The European Commission will issue a report in June on whether to accept Ukraine's application to become a candidate for EU membership. The foreign minister also welcomed a recent proposal by French President Emmanuel Macron to create a new type of political European community that would allow countries outside the bloc, including Ukraine and Britain, to join.
In a message on Twitter, she wrote:"Due to the vastly spread disinformation about Sweden and PKK, we would like to recall that the government of Olof Palme was first after Turkey to list PKK as a terrorist organisation, already in 1984. Yesterday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan accused Sweden and Finland of harbouring and financing"terrorists", repeating Ankara's accusation.
Acting Chief Inspector Lizzie Jones, District Commander for Tonbridge, said:"The war in Ukraine has torn families apart and been traumatic for millions of people who have witnessed horrendous acts of aggression and suffered unimaginable loss." According to a translation by AP, he said:"The top military leadership ordered the preservation of the life and health of the garrison soldiers and the cessation of the city's defences.
Earlier today, the UK's Ministry of Defence said up to 1,700 Ukrainian soldiers were likely to have"surrendered" from the Azovstal steel plant.Turkish president to speak to Finland tomorrow about NATO bid Turkey's approval of Finland and Sweden's application to join the Western military alliance is crucial because NATO makes decisions by consensus. Mr Erdogan has said Turkey's objection stems from its security concerns and grievances with Sweden's - and to a lesser degree Finland's - perceived support of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, and an armed group in Syria that Turkey sees as an extension of the PKK.
