During his speech, Zelensky called for a European army which included Ukraine, as the continent may not be able to rely on the US any longer. Speaking on his meeting with Vance, Zelensky said the Vice President made it clear the decades of the old alliance between Europe and America “are ending”. “But this isn’t just about increasing defence spending as a GDP ratio … Three years of full-scale war have proven that we already have the foundation for a united European military force. And now, as we fight this war and lay the groundwork for peace and security, we must build the Armed Forces of Europe.”
