Security concerns have already prompted the cancellation of the Immortal Regiment civilian processions, where people carry portraits of relatives who fought against the Nazis.

"We are of course aware that the Kyiv regime, which is behind a number of such attacks, terrorist acts, plans to continue its campaign," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters."Most importantly, the special military operation is being conducted to root out threats to our country," he added.

Last year, the Russian president used his speech to justify the country's military intervention in Ukraine, claiming it was a pre-emptive move to ward off aggression, accusing the West of"preparing for the invasion of our land, including Crimea".
