Thousands of Ukrainian refugees who have fled Russia's invasion are celebrating their first Australian Christmas.

"It is very hard for me to be so far from my relatives. We are constantly worried about what is happening in Ukraine," Ms Ilyenko said. "It is very hard for me to be here, only with my son, with my husband, Andrii, in Kyiv and my 20-year-old daughter in Austria," she explained.
