A prominent Jewish leader has castigated the rapid trajectory of antisemitism across the country in light of the protests in Melbourne which brought Victoria’s capital to a standstill.

Speaking to Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny, Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-executive Alex Ryvchin said he was shocked at the “un-Australian” scenes of violence and chaos in the heart of Melbourne.“The hypocrisy that runs through it all, these are people who claim to be pacifists, anti-war, anti-violence, but how quickly they turn to violence against the journalists, against the police.
“You’ve seen this trajectory in the months which ensued where you’ve had encampments on university grounds, which should never have been there but were permitted, and in many regards they were appeased by the university administrations.
