The ASPI boss told Sky News Australia on Wednesday while there should never be “total prohibitions” against applicants from war-torn regions, any person who has sided with a terror group should not be allowed to seek refuge in the country. The expert also called on Australia’s leaders to give the public certainty over their security as the nation struggles with vetting arrivals from the Middle East.“Of course, what’s happening in the Middle East is absolutely devastating, but we can’t just export one problem and bring it here.
The Liberal leader’s comments stirred controversy across the political aisle with Mr Albanese firing back at the Opposition Leader. New figures show there have been 10,033 applications by holders of a Palestinian Authority travel document for visas into Australia since the October 7 attacks. Of those, 7,111 applications have been refused.
