Villa boss has won the Europa League four times in the last nine years - now he wants to add the Conference League trophy to his CV.
Unai Emery insists he’s determined to build on his record-breaking European trophy haul with Aston Villa as he prepares for this evening’s Battle of Britain with Hibs.
Italy forward Nicolo Zaniolo could be handed a debut at Easter Road in this evening’s play-off clash after clinching his loan signing from Galatasaray. And Emery, who revealed he is motivated by images of Villa’s 1982 European Cup triumph every day. He said: “Playing in Europe always gave me a lot as a coach, in football I am so grateful for the possibility to play in Europe. Now with Aston Villa I want to share with everybody my experiences and my competitive way, that I did before.
“It was amazing last year how we achieved qualification for the Europa Conference League. And now we are going to enjoy. We have to enjoy, but being also demanding in the possibility to do something. Emery led Villa to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season and ahead of the trip to Edinburgh heaped praise on skipper McGinn as the Scotland ace heads for an emotional return to his previous club.And Emery said: “His career has got better and better. Now I think he would cost more than before. John McGinn is always positive in the dressing room, always happy, always demanding, always committed with his team-mates, with the club, with the coaches, his work is always high.
