Sophia Ali, who plays Chloe in Uncharted, admits she wasn't very good at Sony's original video games.😂 'I played the games, like as fast as I could, for hours. [Ruben Fleisher and Tom Holland] played all of them. So it like took me forever.'
Sophia Ali, who plays Chloe in Sony’s Uncharted, learned she wasn’t very good at the video games while researching her role. With a filmography stretching back to 2003, Ali has previously appeared in the 2008 horror film Truth or Dare, and as Dr. Dahlia Qadri on Grey’s Anatomy. Now, Ali stars in Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer’s Uncharted, which was released in theaters on February 18.
Uncharted is based on Naughty Dog’s video game franchise of the same name, which began with the release of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune on PlayStation 3 in 2007. Serving as a spiritual prequel to the games, the film sees Tom Holland play a younger version of the wise-cracking thief turned treasure hunter, Nathan Drake, who meets his future mentor in Mark Wahlberg’s Victor “Sully” Sullivan. In addition to that pair, Uncharted also stars Antonio Banderas, Tati Gabrielle, and Ali.
"I mean, I played the games, like as fast as I could, for hours. [Ruben Fleisher and Tom Holland] played all of them. So it like took me forever, and I wasn't good ... Then COVID happened, so then we had a break, and that was when I really played it, then we got to set, and like everyone had played it at that point. So, then we all had our own ideas and stuff, but it was really cool.
Uncharted’s release date was delayed multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it appears that those delays resulted in more references to the games making their way into the film. Despite following younger versions of the characters, the film incorporates aspects of the entire Uncharted franchise, including the cargo plane sequence from Uncharted 3: Drake Deception and Sam’s backstory in Uncharted 4.
It’s not a stretch to say that Ali’s Chloe feels the most like her video game counterpart in Uncharted. However, it’s worth mentioning that Nathan’s main love interest and eventual wife is reporter Elena Fisher, who is not in the Uncharted film but would likely be introduced in a sequel, which hinges on the success of this first film. While reviews for the project have been mixed, Uncharted outperformed Sony's opening weekend projections with $44.
