The Italian prime minister has suggested that there were political motives behind the leaking of the audio and video of her television presenter partner.
They were the power couple with everything going for them – Giorgia Meloni, the first female prime minister of Italy and a rising figure on Europe’s Right, and her partner, a suave television presenter.
“Meloni, one day you’ll realise that I did you a favour,” the creator of the programme, Antonio Ricci, wrote on Facebook after the scandal broke. The prime minister, whose no-nonsense attitude is part of her electoral appeal, was resolute, almost surgical, in her decision to dump her partner. The prime minister’s father abandoned the family when she was young, leaving her and her sister to be raised by a single mother in a working-class district of Rome. The statement ended with Meloni writing: “I have no more to say on this matter.”
“If you can avoid getting drunk and losing your senses, maybe you will avoid ending up in serious situations in which the wolf will find you,” he said while anchoring his TV show.
