Mr Gething said he had 'no alternative' but to fire Hannah Blythyn, Minister for Social Partnership, accusing her of leaks to the media following a 'recent disclosure of communication'.

New Welsh First Minister Vaughan Gething was plunged into fresh crisis today as he sacked a senior member of his own Labour cabinet for revealing that he deleted official messages during the Covid pandemic.

Mr Gething has been under pressure since messages emerged that appeared to contradict his evidence to the official Covid-19 Inquiry. In a message posted to a ministerial group chat on August 17, 2020, Mr Gething apparently wrote: 'I'm deleting the messages in this group. 'For a kid from Connah’s Quay it is an immense privilege to serve the community that shaped me, let alone to have served in my country’s government. I will say no more at present.'
