More than one million Australians on boosted welfare will have their payments slashed from Friday as the government scales back pandemic support schemes.

The coronavirus supplement – rolled out in March – is being cut to $250 per fortnight, down from $550.

From Monday the criteria required to keep JobSeeker will also be tightened, meaning people must search for up to eight jobs each month and accept reasonable work offers to receive the benefit. Asset limits are also being reinstated.
