Labor minister Tony Burke has formerly condemned the Hamas attacks on Israel one week after members of his electorate in western Sydney celebrated the attacks with fireworks.
As Parliament resumed, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese led a bipartisan condemnation of Hamas’ “heinous acts of terrorism”.

Mr Burke characterised the terror attacks as “horrific in their immediacy” and “contrary to the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people".
“There are Australians grieving for people on either side of the border they have a right to know that the Parliament grieve with them.” "These seats they represent have very strong Islamic populations and they don’t wish to upset those leaders in their community," he told Sky News Australia.
