The Australian daughter of Baha'i poet Mahvash Sabet is calling for the Australian government's support for her release from Iranian imprisonment.

Negar Sabet finds herself crying at random moments during the day, with the stress of her detained mother's fate in Iran taking its toll. "It's now a matter of her life," the Sydney resident told SBS News. "She could be returned to the prison at any time.

A series of Sabet's poems written inside Evin prison in 2017 earned her the International Writer of Courage award by PEN International. Fellow poet Michael Longley described the imprisonment as a "sin against the light" during the award ceremony.
