Victoria's public service union has accused the Andrews government of 'hyperbole and hubris' over its ambitious intervention into the national debate on superannuation and retirement incomes

Victoria's public sector union says the Andrews government knocked back a proposed super increase for its own employees before revealing a bold plan for a 15 per cent super guarantee for all Australian workers.on Wednesday, suggested sweeping changes to super including a new deal for women, families and low-income workers, but has sparked a furious backlash.

"We asked for an increase in super to 12 per cent over the life of the next agreement but the request was rejected outright," Ms Batt said.Treasurer Tim Pallas said the Commonwealth had a responsibility for lifting the super contribution levels, when asked why he had rejected the CPSU's request for increased payments.

Compulsory employer contributions are set to rise next year from their present level of 9.5 per cent to 10 per cent, and to 12 per cent by July 2025.
