United Airlines in Houston hosted 'Girls in Aviation Day' to show young female high school students the many opportunities available in the field of aviation.

United’s goal of hosting ’Girls in Aviation Day’ is to “close the gender gap by breaking down barriers and promoting inclusion,” according to a news release. “This is the first year I’ve been in charge of making everything come together and seeing it through,” Self said. “It’s been awesome; all the hard work and smiling faces is making me feel accomplished.”
“I’ve flown with one other woman in my entire professional airline career, so I think that shows that there’s room to grow,” said Kotter, a pilot for United Airlines. “This event inspires them and helps them to think about where they see themselves in the future.”
