Man Utd fan and darts star Nathan Aspinall will begin the defence of his World Matchplay title in Blackpool this weekend.
Manchester United fan and Stockport lad Nathan Aspinall is relishing the prospect of defending his World Matchplay title, despite going into the tournament with an injury.
The World Matchplay is one of darts' most prestigious tournaments and Aspinall is hopeful of going all the way again, despite currently nursing an arm injury that is causing him problems. Aspinall heads into the Matchplay as the defending champion but feels he could be impacted by his arm injury. "The biggest threat to me at the moment is my arm, I've got an injury that everyone knows about now, and it's how my arm holds up," he explained.
"I know my game is there, I can win it, it's going to be tough, but if you look at the draw, I've got quite a favourable draw and I play a debutant, Luke Woodhouse, in my opening game. I say let the bookies lose more money on me and I'll prove them all wrong once again." "My mate is at a wedding on Saturday and he's given his tickets on the front row to a lad I haven't seen since Year 11 in school. He's coming to watch me and I'll meet him outside.
"I went to the game," he said with a smile. "I was due to play in Holland and we miss so much as darts players, so I thought do you know what, I'm pulling out and watching the final. I went down on the train and I actually had a bet on them at 9/2 to lift the trophy.
