A strange substance could be seen across the sands of the seaside resort
United Utilities has addressed concerns over sewage and pollution after a bout of heavy rain towards the end of last week.
But following visits to the seaside resort, United Utilities has assured members of the public the substance is safe. Many Blackpool residents speculated that it could have been sewage, particularly due to an increase in sewage pollution. In June, swimmers were warned to stay out of the water at four Lancashire beaches, due to torrential rain causes surface water to run-off and bacteria being washed into the sea.
This will see swimmers peacefully protesting on their beaches, with Fleetwood beach hosting the event at national level. The event is being led by the group, Fylde Coast Against Sewage, a local campaign group against sewage in the sea.
