Universities will have to bid for the 20,000 extra places promised by the federal government, proving they will be allocated to students from low-income backgrounds, First Nations people and those from rural and remote areas or with a disability.
Federal Education Minister Jason Clare has confirmed the government’s promised 20,000 extra university places will be allocated from next year.He said universities would be required to competitively bid for places, demonstrating they would be allocated in study areas identified as having skills shortages in the Government’s Secure Australian Jobs plan and by the National Skills Commission.
