University of Adelaide delays, charges fees on sexual harassment FOI request
The ABC also requested an itemised list of international and interstate travel undertaken by Professor Rathjen during his tenure, including associated travel costs and companions. In an email, the university's FOI officer said it acknowledged it might be in the public interest to release the information sought by the ABC, but that it would not reduce or waive the fee.
"The public interest is met by the release of the information, and the FOI Act specifically contemplates an agency being able to charge for the cost of responding to FOI requests."After a review of our processes, the university has decided to commence charging the hourly rates it is entitled to charge under the [FOI] Act due to the increase in volume and complexity of FOI applications and the requirement to invest significant resources into responding to these requests.
"There shouldn't, in this day and age, be a significant amount of time spent in locating documents of this kind," he said.
