The United States and Russia have completed their largest prisoner swap since the Cold War, involving 24 individuals. Among those released were journalist Evan Gershkovich, detained since 2023, and corporate security executive Paul Whelan, detained since 2018.

US President Joe Biden hailed the swap as a feat of diplomacy, thanking the many countries that participated in the negotiations.
