US and Russian diplomats have held what they have described as “frank” talks in a bid to reduce the possibility of a major military conflict in Ukraine.
Mr Blinken said America would respond severely to any invasion, a course of action his Russian counterpart has repeatedly denied planning.
Western allies led by the US have threatened to impose new sanctions on Russia if President Vladimir Putin orders military action. After the talks had finished, Mr Blinken said the US was considering addressing some of Russia’s concerns.
