Senior United States officials say they've achieved a 'breakthrough' and expect the Israeli and Lebanese governments to respond publicly in the coming hours.
A joint statement from a group of countries, including the United States, France, and Australia, called for an immediate 21-day ceasefire across the Israel-Lebanon border to provide space for diplomacy.
"We call on all parties, including the governments of Israel and Lebanon, to endorse the temporary cease-fire immediately."
