United States officials have confirmed that about 3,000 North Korean troops have arrived in Russia for training and could be deployed as part of a new assault on the frontline in Ukraine.
The US has confirmed that thousands of North Korea n troops are being trained in Russia and could be used to fight on the frontline in Ukraine .
"We don’t yet know whether these soldiers will enter into combat alongside the Russian military, but this is an acute and highly concerning possibility," Mr Kirby said. South Korean Deputy for National Security Advisor, Kim Tae-Hyo, said his government is calling for an immediate withdrawal of the North Korean troops.
North Korea is one of the most heavily sanctioned countries in the world due in large part to its nuclear weapons and missile programs. Iran has supplied drones and short-range ballistic missiles and China has provided vital components to Russia’s defence industry. The Russian training scheme could be a program to prepare North Korean troops for future ground battles in Ukraine.
