Former president Donald Trump is to turn himself in to the notorious Fulton County jail later to be booked on more than a dozen charges - all concerning his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election result in the state of Georgia. It is expected that Trump will have a mugshot taken.

This case, one of four criminal cases against Donald Trump, concerns alleged attempted election fraud in the state of Georgia.

Fani Willis, the Democrat district attorney for Fulton County, has been investigating Trump's efforts to overturn the election result since early 2021. The booking process will involve a mugshot, fingerprinting and having his height and weight recorded - although it is understood Trump has asked that a mugshot not be taken.

It was a decision most politicians would make. When you are so far ahead in the polls, why bother turning up to a debate with the rest of the pack? And so, instead, with a Trumpian master stroke he sat down for a pre-recorded conversation with his friend-turned-foe-turned-friend-again Tucker Carlson published online at the moment the main debate went on air.

Carlson:"So do you think it's possible that there's open conflict? We seem to be moving towards something." Meanwhile, frontrunner Donald Trump bypassed the event entirely, opting instead for an interview with commentator Tucker Carlson. In his first political debate, Vivek Ramaswamy brought howls of protest from others on the stage.

Nikki Haley, who said she was strongly anti-abortion, seemed to try to find a way to speak to moderate voters on the topic. Mr DeSantis referred to the president's son in his response, saying:"If you are working hard and you can't afford groceries, a car or a new home while Hunter Biden can make hundreds of thousands of dollars on lousy paintings, that is wrong."The debate is now drawing to a close and the candidates have been asked to deliver their final statements.

Former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson uses his closing statement to say the US is in"trouble" and the"solution is not four more years of Joseph Biden" or Donald Trump. "I will beat Joe Biden and he knows that," she says, adding America will be"strong and proud" again.
